Type: Pub/Inn
The Pig and Fiddle, which is right in the centre of Bath, is a one off and at nearly 22 years old is a bit of a Bath institution. Everyone in Bath old enough to drink knows the Pig and they have probably passed many happy summer evenings drinking with friends in the beer garden.
It feels like a ‘proper’ pub with lots of loyal and local regulars, a friendly atmosphere with staff always ready to welcome new faces and a unique and quirky decor. Unusual bits and pieces adorn the walls, one of the regulars has painted an amazing mural on one wall and some of the furniture has been made by the two brothers who own The Pig. This sits alongside lots of sport memorabilia all over the walls (such as signed rugby shirts and an oar from our Olympic rowing eight) and in fact the Pig is a bit of a sporty pub with live rugby and football games on Sky Sports shown on big screens throughout the year – it even has its own football team!
The Pig has a large beer garden outside with heated umbrellas, perfect for people watching on dry days, and lots of tables inside and a fire for cosying up to during the Winter months.
Six hand pulled local real ales and ciders plus a great range of lagers, wines and spirits make it a place worth finding and food is also available until 7.30pm. The food is homemade and locally sourced wherever possible (the meat and veg usually come from within a 30 mile radius) and is best described as good, honest and reasonably priced pub grub. Classics such as chicken and mushroom pie and homemade battered cod and chips are very popular and the all day ‘Porky’s Revenge’ breakfast and ostrich, kangaroo and wild boar burgers are legendary.
There’s also a munchies menu with lighter bites to nibble on and a good selection of baked baguettes and jacket potatoes too. Mains start at £4.50 and the munchies menu from £1.95 so the Pig really is the perfect place to pop into for a spot of lunch or a relaxing drink and to experience a bit of ‘Pig love’!!
