For foodies on a romantic trip this is the perfect destination. Located at Midsomer Norton, the Old Priory dates from 1152, allegedly one of the oldest houses in Somerset. With massive oak beams, inglenook fireplaces and flagstone floors the hotel is full of character. Chef Stephen Shore moved his successful Moody Goose restaurant from the centre of Bath when he bought the Moody Goose in Spring 2005. With a Michelin star under his belt, he has quite a following. He serves modern English cuisine with menus reflecting the changing seasons, featuring only the freshest local ingredients. Charming bedrooms reflect the atmosphere of the Old Priory and are comfortably appointed. The walled garden is a tranquil haven for an early evening cocktail but the Old Priory is equally attractive in the depths of winters with cosy nooks by roaring log fires.
