Type: Pub/Inn
There’s been a pub on the site of The Chequers since 1776 when the main customers were weary sedan chair men who carried the aristocracy to nearby lodging houses. And we’re still in the business of serving food & drink to visitors and locals all these years later.
Downstairs you’ll find a menu of great tasting, high quality gastropub food, served in a warm and friendly pub atmosphere. We also stock a range of local ales and ciders and have an extensive wine list. Our chalk boards display a frequently changing menu of tempting pub classics and bar food: great salads, fresh fish, soups, sandwiches, steaks & burgers are just some of the dishes you’ll find here. And make sure you leave room for a dessert – they simply should not to be missed! On Sundays our legendary Sunday roasts draw in locals and visitors alike –it gets busy, so booking is highly recommended!
In our Upstairs at The Chequers restaurant you can enjoy an intimate dining experience with effortless service and exceptional food. Head Chef Leigh Evans has created a modern British menu using the finest local and seasonal produce. Inventive, with one eye on our culinary heritage, the hallmarks of his dishes are beautiful presentation and delicately balanced flavours.
We’ll happily cater for groups and parties of all sizes and we create a menu to match if needed. The upstairs restaurant can also be used for functions and private hire, including private dining events.
