ROMANTIC SPECIAL
Make a date with Bath's pretty little sister - Bradford on Avon. She isn't quite so brazen, in fact she hides her charms too well, revealing them only to those who explore her maze of alleyways and paths on foot. She deserves more than a few snatched daylight hours and only really lets her hair down at night with a variety of lively pubs, bistros and restaurants as well as romantically lit small parks and walkways alongside the tranquil River Avon.
If she seduces you into staying longer than you intended, seek out a truly memorable bedtime experience in one of the towns quirkiest buildings - Bradford Old Windmill. This is not a working windmill, no more groans from meshing gear wheels here, instead a romantic round golden stone tower with twin lancet windows looking out over the twinkling town laid out beneath you. Cross the threshold and discover an Aladdin's cave of delights in three very special bedrooms named after evocative parts of the mill back in her grinding days :-
GREAT SPUR - once the main drive wheel which turned vertical action into horizontal - now a womb like 19ft diameter circular room in the original windmill tower with a King size round bed, a wicker hanging chair and a compact en-suite bathroom with double size bath which has jets and bubbles to add a little frisson to your bathing.
FANTAIL - once the diminutive sails attached to the cap which kept the sweeps turned into the wind - now a suite with spectacular views across the town and including a sitting room with a single lancet window looking across to the wooded hillside on the southern side of the river, a bedroom with a queen size 'gothic' iron bed (bring your own handcuffs) and a bathroom with a large circular mirror.
DAMSEL - a sexist term which once referred to the incessant chatter from this device which joggled the spout to distribute the grain evenly through the runner grindstone onto the bed stone - now a pretty room at the top of the new tower so it has a conical timbered ceiling, with a queen size waterbed and an authentic 'Damsel' poised above the bed just waiting to pass on your deepest secrets to the next occupants! The en-suite bathroom has a whirlpool bath.
However if romance to you is a little more than caring and sharing and you want to add a little spice to keep your memories warm during those long winter months try our ROMANTIC SPECIAL - vintage champagne, satin sheets, chocolates, flowers, pillow roses an exotic fruit bowl and a later breakfast. See our entry on the Romantic Breaks page.
