Bath in Fashion - a new festival for Bath this April

9th March 2010

This Spring it is time to celebrate 'Bath in Fashion'.  A lively programme of catwalk shows, events and exhibitions from 14th to 17th April 2010 highlights Bath as an exciting place for fashion.  Hot designers and this season’s high street fashion will be fronting catwalk shows in the fabulous Octagon at Milsom Place. At SouthGate the vibe is set to be fun and funky with street fashions on centre stage as well as a show for the latest trends in children, tweens and teens.  A glam Bath in Fashion evening around the Roman Baths will see the modern day “duchesses” in all their finery for 'Fashion ‘n Fizz by Square' with a one off chance to see a fashion show in this stunning setting on Friday 16th April.

With the Haiti appeal in mind, Bath in Fashion has chosen to support Save the Children, by seeking high quality clothing and accessories in a citywide 'Donate Don’t Dump' initiative.  Retail Guru Mary Portas presenter of the BBC series 'Mary Queen of Shops' demonstrated how you can inject a new lease of life into someone else’s wardrobe by donating those neglected items at the back of your cupboard. A set in each of the Bath in Fashion Catwalk Shows will be styled from all the items donated. So set to and spring clean to save lives with Save the Children.

Retailers throughout the city are planning in-store events and promotions and taking the opportunity to shout about the all that Bath has to offer for the fashion conscious shopper.  To take part in a catwalk show or plan a promotion or event call, contact Andrew Cooper on Tel: 01225 396458.

The Little Theatre Cinema is to screen 'The September Issue' on Saturday 17th April at 3.45 pm.  The film goes behind the scenes into the life of Anna Wintour, the legendary editor-in-chief of American Vogue and gives a fly on the wall view of one of the most influential figures in the world of fashion.

Bath is home to a world class collection of contemporary and historical dress at the Fashion Museum in the Assembly Rooms. A new exhibition 'Photographing Fashion; British Style in the 1960s' runs from 27th March with images of top models from that era sourced from The Museum’s celebrated Ernestine Carter Collection of fashion photographs.  Fashion Museum Manager, Rosemary Harden is to give an illustrated talk; 'ten 1960s fashion designers,' on Friday 16th April at the Octagon, Milsom Place.

A vibrant retail scene attracts shoppers from the south-west and beyond.  Independent retailers account for almost 40 per cent of shops in Bath and many designer labels are represented in quality fashion boutiques.

Leading high street brands select Bath for their flagship stores and the city’s anchor department stores include House of Fraser and Debenhams, opening later this year in the brand new SouthGate shopping development.  Milsom Place, off Milsom Street, opened in 2008 combining 13 listed buildings with contemporary architecture, to create a stylish shopping and dining area and has attracted significant players like Jamie’s Italian, Traffic People and Cath Kidston as well as a clutch of independent fashion and gifts stores.
