Thermae Bath Spa celebrates five years

4th August 2011

On August 7th 2011, Thermae Bath Spa will celebrate its fifth anniversary.

Since it opened on August 7th 2006, Thermae has welcomed more than 1 million guests to the Spa from all over the world.

Market research shows that the Spa has been instrumental in bringing an additional £41million into the local economy, which has been spread amongst a wide range of businesses including hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, taxi companies and shops.

The independent study, undertaken by South West Research Company, shows that in the past 12 months the additional spend has been more than £12.5 million. This figure has increased year on year since the Spa opened.

Sales & Marketing Manager Peter Rollins said: “It is hard to believe that the Spa has been open for five years and has welcomed more than 1million guests. After a difficult beginning, we hope that the Spa is now making a significant contribution to the wellbeing of the City.

“More than anything else, it is great to see so many people enjoying Bath’s most important asset, the natural thermal waters”.

The Spa is not only popular with local residents and day visitors but also with staying and overseas visitors. The research indicates that the favourite aspects of the Spa are the open-air rooftop pool, the steam rooms and the spa treatments.

Five years ago when Thermae first opened its doors to the public, it employed 65 members of staff. Today that figure has increased to 170.

Several of the original team still work for Thermae Bath Spa, including the Managing Director Mr Henk Verschuur.
