Romantic Breaks - Love Bath

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bath is well known as a romantic city with a winning combination of beautiful Georgian architecture, stunning scenery, luxurious accommodation and superb restaurants and has a well earned reputation as one of the World's most romantic destinations.

Whether it's to celebrate an anniversary, propose to a loved one, or just spend some quality time together, Bath is the perfect destination, with its intimate size, laid back atmosphere and countryside right on the doorstep. And with plenty of options to choose from, there is something to suit all couples and all budgets.  The Love Bath section of visitbath.co.uk offers visitors a comprehensive guide to arranging a romantic break including details on where to stay, things to do and places to eat out.  Below is a brief guide to romantic breaks in Bath.

Romantic accommodation

With three quarters of the hotels in Bath offering four poster beds, there is no shortage of excellent accommodation in and around the city, and with prior arrangement, many will lay on extras such as flowers, chocolates or champagne in the room on arrival for that special occasion.

For a luxurious stay, book a room at one of the 5 star hotels in and around the city.  Complete with spa facilities, it makes a break to Bath truly relaxing.  For visitors on a tighter budget choose from the abundance of quality bed and breakfasts offering a comfortable stay and a tasty breakfast with many in the city-centre making it easy to reach all the main attractions, restaurants and shops. There is also a huge choice of accommodation in nearby towns and countryside for those who prefer to get away from it all and have a bit of peace and quiet; from self catering cottages where couples can snuggle up in front of an open fire to bed and breakfasts on working farms, there is something to suit all tastes.

Romantic things to do

Bath is brimming with things to do; seeing the iconic Royal Crescent, Pulteney Bridge and Circus, or visiting the famous Roman Baths, but for something different a boating trip on the River Avon couldn't be more romantic, or the skyline walk with six miles of marked trails offering views of valleys, woodlands, patchwork meadows and beautiful Georgian cityscape is always a delight.

A spa session at the Thermae Bath Spa is always popular with couples.  Wallow in the only natural thermal waters in the country and enjoy the view from the impressive roof-top pool.  The Cross Bath at Thermae Bath Spa is an intimate open-air thermal bath in a stand alone building from the main complex, and can be reserved for two people to bathe in the warm spa waters all alone!

For couples who prefer adventure to roses and champagne, Castle Combe Motor Racing Circuit is the ideal place to get your adrenalin pumping as you put pedal to the metal!

The beautiful Royal Victoria Park is a lovely place to enjoy a walk and if the weather is fine it’s a perfect spot for a picnic.  The Victoria Art Gallery holds a collection from the 15th Century to the present day as well as a changing exhibition programme and has free entry.

The area surrounding Bath has some beautiful attractions and places to visit.  Explore the nearby historic town of Bradford on Avon, or walk around the Peto Garden at Iford Manor, an award winning, Grade I, Italianate garden.  And if money is no object enjoy the local area by being chauffeur-driven on a private tour with one of the many local companies available.

To soak up views of the city, Bath Balloons offer champagne hot air balloon flights which depart from Royal Victoria Park.

Candlelit dinner for two

Bath has a vibrant restaurant scene with a huge choice of eateries from Indian to Italian and Mediterranean to Moroccan; there is something for everyone, including a wealth of inviting restaurants to enjoy an intimate candlelit table for two to get all starry eyed! The countryside around Bath also has a good choice of restaurants and country pubs.  For a full list of restaurants see the Bath Eating Out Guide on the eating and drinking section of visitbath.co.uk.
