Shopping in Bath

The Georgian fashionistas flocked to Bath for their fashion fix.  Today, Bath is just as fashionable with a fabulous selection of small independent shops and stylish boutiques alongside the familiar big name stores. The city centre is compact and easily walkable with grand Georgian streets and small picturesque passageways to explore.  Read below to discover where boutiques and high street fashion can be found, the location of galleries and antique shops and where to buy local food and drink. For a detailed information on shopping in Bath, see the shopping section on visitbath.co.uk/shop.

Milsom Quarter – best for designer chic and boutiques

Head to Milsom Quarter and treat yourself to some designer chic. The Milsom Quarter plays host to a number of shopping centres and department stores including the Podium, Milsom Place and Jolly's - Bath's House of Fraser store.

The Upper Town – best for boutiques and galleries

Don't miss the 'top of Bath'; the Upper Town is filled with hidden gems well worth the walk up from Milsom Street. Margaret's Buildings is a charming pedestrianised lane, tucked away between the Royal Crescent and the Circus. Margaret's Buildings, Saville Row and Bartlett Street are lined with a great mix of irresistible boutiques, galleries and antique shops.

The Central Area – best for high street fashion

Stall Street and Union Street is a lively thoroughfare and home to all the usual and favourite high street stores including Next, Marks and Spencer and WH Smiths. Pulteney Bridge is one of a few bridges in the world with shops built into it and just across the road is the indoor Guildhall Market which is open every day selling everything from household goods and jewellery to books and local food and drink.

SouthGate – best for high street fashion

Bath's newest addition to its shopping scene is SouthGate - a brand new shopping area next to the railway and bus stations.  Here, you'll find all the high street favourites as well as a number of cafes and restaurants to rest your weary feet.

Artisan Quarter – best for arts and antiques

The Artisan Quarter, in and around Walcot Street, is filled with a vibrant selection of independent craft and curio shops; from reclaimed antiques and furniture to clothes, pottery and bicycles.

The Western Area – best for local food and drink

The Western Area hosts a great mix of local independent shops. Every Saturday morning Green Park Station holds the Bath Farmers' Market where you can buy a wide variety of fresh and local produce. Alternatively, Kingsmead Square and St James Parade offer a number of local restaurants and cafes alongside independent retailers selling homeware, fashion and electronic goods.
