Bath Tourism secures an audience of 300million as China’s National broadcaster films in Bath as part of London 2012 Olympics

China Central TV (CCTV), the largest TV station in China and also 2012 London Games official broadcaster, will be filming in Bath Spa on Friday 27th April 2012.

The crew of four will be producing 10 features - of 55 min each - of specially selected places in Britain that will feature the destination’s heritage, culture and its sports legacy and then broadcast it back to its 300 million audience in China during July 2012.

Whilst in Bath, the film crew will visit the Sports and Fashion Exhibition held at the Fashion Museum in Bath. In the year of the 2012 Olympics, the crew will examine the close connection between active sportswear and fashion by showcasing examples of historic sportswear from the museum collection alongside modern fashions and the very best of today’s sportswear. This will include the red, white and blue suit that Olympic gold medalist Amy Williams wore at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Later they will head to the University of Bath to interview Director of Sport, Steven Baddeley about how the University of Bath is preparing for the Olympic games; discussing Bath’s association with Badminton and how the University will be welcoming the Chinese Olympic swimming team.

Bath Tourism Plus alongside VisitBritain Beijing is facilitating the press trip for CCTV.  Nick Brooks-Sykes, Chief Executive of Bath Tourism Plus expressed his delight in the interest shown in Bath by China’s Largest TV Station: “As we have set out an ambitious target to grow overseas tourism to Bath by 12% of the next 3 years and to raise our visitor income by £43m to £400m, we need to make sure that we are selling Bath at every opportunity. Global tourism is forecast to grow by 60% by 2020 and half of that growth will come from just 4 countries – China, Russia, India and Brazil.

Therefore facilitating this visit will provide us with a great opportunity to raise our profile within this key market.
