Afternoon Tea in Bath

Bath is well known for its 'quintessentially English' reputation and there is nothing more English than afternoon tea with a jam and cream scone or mouth watering slice of cake. Tea may be the British national beverage but the habit of taking full afternoon tea belongs to a more leisurely era. However, with the perfectly preserved Georgian terraces of Bath it is easy to travel back in time and imagine a genteel gathering for tea…

In the city centre you will find The Pump Room, part of the Roman Bath’s complex and winner of The Tea Guild’s Award of Excellence 2009 where you can sample the popular Bath Bun. Another Tea Guild Member, The Jane Austen Centre Regency Tea Rooms gives visitors the chance to experience a real taste of Georgian life with its established menu. For an alternative to the traditional scone, visit Sally Lunn’s Refreshment House and Museum where you can enjoy an afternoon tea made from a Sally Lunn Bun - one of Bath's local delicacies. Definitely worth a visit is The Bridge Tea Rooms – winner of the Tea Guild’s Top UK Tea Place 2009. This internationally renowned Victorian tea room serves a selection of traditional afternoon teas and offers intimate candlelight dining every evening.
