Construction Begins on SouthGate Shopping Area
The eagerly awaited SouthGate shopping development will offer the best of both worlds - contemporary design that is sensitive to the city's architectural heritage. It will include a nearly 60 shops,8 new cafés, bars and restaurants, new open public spaces and over 90 apartments.
The major regeneration scheme will be delivered one year ahead of schedule as contractors begin work on the 9 acre area, creating a new southern gateway to Bath's retail heart -meaning that visitors can enjoy all the benefits that SouthGate will bring to Bath in 2010.
The scheme will also incorporate a two level basement car park for 724 cars and public transport interchange.
The mix of shops, restaurants and apartments, and the architecture will provide a contemporary city experience with an emphasis on creating inviting public spaces.
