This week a film crew from the BBC have been out and about in Bath making a feature about the city for its flagship travel programme 'Holiday 2007'.
Assisted by Bath Tourism Plus, the crew have had a busy time taking in the famous sights of the city, focusing on the contrast between the old and the new - exploring Bath's long and interesting history, while showing off some of the more modern aspects of the city.
With a focus on Jane Austen and her connections with the Bath, the crew filmed presenter Lynda Bryan walking around the city and 'taking tea' at the Royal Crescent Hotel's newly refurbished restaurant, with local Author Katharine Reeve, who recently published a book entitled 'Jane Austen in Bath - Walking Tours of the Writers City'. Filming also took place in the Pump Room and the Assembly Rooms - both venues that are featured in Jane Austen's writing.
The city's thriving retail scene will also be featured, with a number of Bath's independent shops being filmed. Lynne Gardner, owner of Square, a designer clothing shop on Milsom Street and already a familiar face on screen in the current ITV2 series 'WAGs Boutique' was interviewed and explained why Bath's high percentage of independents make it so unique, and why shoppers are increasingly being drawn to the city.
The theme of the old and new is also explored with regard to the City's natural thermal waters as filming has taken place at Thermae Bath Spa and the Roman Baths.
Attracting such an important and popular programme to film in the City is a great accomplishment for Bath Tourism Plus and Enjoy England, who both worked hard to raise the interest of the researchers and show them the amount of filming opportunities that are available in Bath. With over 5 million viewers in the UK, Holiday 2007 is a fantastic platform for Bath to really show everyone why it is an ideal short breaks destination.
