A complete redisplay of the Museum of Costume is taking place during the first half of 2007, and the museum is due to be relaunched under a new name, 'The Fashion Museum', in July 2007.
New displays will bring about a transformation of the major part of the museum galleries. The impressive collection of items that charts the history of fashion from the 16th Century to the present day will be reviewed and presented in an accessible, interesting and entertaining new way.
The new displays will focus on fashionable dress through the ages and will contrast old and new, night and day, menswear and womenswear. The current line up of costume in chronological order from 1600 to 2006 will disappear in favour of a system that enables visitors to see dress for a wide variety of different occasions.
