Jane Austen Festival to be Biggest Ever

Promenading at the Jane Austen FestivalThis year's Jane Austen Festival is already well on its way to being the biggest one yet according to its Director.

The Festival Programme for the ten day celebration in September is now available and although tickets have only been on sale for a short while, two events are already completely sold out. They are the Regency Ball, organised by Farthingales, and the dance workshop preceding it in the afternoon.

'This particular event is always popular,' said Festival Director David Lassman, 'but I believe this is the earliest it has sold out. I am not surprised though, as interest in Jane Austen is at an all-time high.'

Other events within the festival, which runs between the 21st and the 30th September, include the Grand Regency Promenade, now the largest in Europe, a number of walks, several lectures and a creative writing workshop. There is also an evening with Gill Hornby, talking about her children's biography of Jane Austen, and this is being staged in collaboration with the Children's Literature Festival. Tickets are available online from www.janeausten.co.uk/festival
