Following a sell-out run on Broadway in 2007, Vanessa Redgrave reprises her extraordinary award-winning solo performance in David Hare’s celebrated production which visits Bath direct from its UK premiere at the National Theatre. Undoubtedly one of the must-see performances of the year, this deeply poignant work was adapted for the stage by Joan Didion from her best-selling memoir of the same name. Redgrave relives the unimaginable night when, as Didion’s only child lay in a coma, her husband of 40 years, writer John Gregory Dunne, died of a massive coronary as they sat down to dinner in their New York apartment…The story is told with exceptional warmth an unexpected wit and humour.

Vanessa Redgrave is one of the world’s greatest actresses, the winner of a Tony Award and Drama Desk Award for most Outstanding Actress on Broadway for Long Day’s Journey into Night; Best Actress Awards at Cannes Film Festival for Morgan: A Suitable Case for Treatment and Isadora; and a Golden Globe award for Julia. Recent appearances have been in the acclaimed film Atonement and the hit US series Nip/Tuck.

Joan Didion is an American writer, famous for her journalism, essays, and novels and described as “the finest woman prose stylist writing in English today.”
