Equus at the Theatre Royal

None

Equus premiered at the National Theatre in 1973 and became a worldwide sensation. In 2007 a new production opened in London, starring Richard Griffiths and Daniel Radcliffe (both of Harry Potter fame), and became one of the biggest hits ever seen in the West End.

Now you have the chance to experience this theatrical masterpiece with one of our greatest living stage actors, Simon Callow, and a star in the making, Alfie Allen, most recently seen in the film Atonement and brother of singer Lily Allen.

Passionate and compelling, Equus centres on the explosive encounters between seventeen-year-old Alan Strang, who has blinded six horses with a spike, and Martin Dysart, the middle-aged psychiatrist who struggles to determine what drove the apparently harmless teenager to commit such a crime.

Simon Callow made his film debut in Amadeus and also starred in A Room with a View, Maurice and the hugely successful Four Weddings and a Funeral. Recent stage work includes Noel Coward’s Present Laughter, his acclaimed solo play, The Mystery of Charles Dickens and Count Fosco in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Woman in White in the West End.

Multi-award-winning playwright Peter Shaffer’s work includes Amadeus, Black Comedy and The Royal Hunt of the Sun.
