7.30pm Tuesday 18th November 2008 at Radstock Museum
On the Mendip Hills, mining and smelting for lead and other metals were carried out from pre-roman times until early in the twentieth century. Today from those centuries of human toil, we are left with the heaps of black slag, other intriguing industrial artefacts and areas of lead deposition. Dr Sally Griffin from Bath Spa University has extensively studied the effects of lead mining on Mendip. She outlines the history of this local industry and its legacy. Admission £3.00, concessions £2.00.
