Venanzio Rauzzini is arguably Bath’s greatest musician. Born in Italy in 1747, he became Europe’s most celebrated castrato. Mozart composed Exsultate Jubilate for him in 1773 as well as the role of Cecilioin Lucio Silla. He finally settled in Bath in 1780 and ran the city’s first subscription concert series, which featured some of the world’s most distinguished musicians of the time. He died in 1810 and is buried in Bath Abbey.
This unique concert by Bath Philharmonia celebrates Rauzzini’s life and work with one of the world’s only castrato singers –Radu Marian – performing works written especially for Rauzzini by Mozart as well as an extremely rare performance of one of Rauzzini’s compositions.
Tickets are available from Bath Festivals Box Office.
