Type: Exhibition
Dates:
16/12/2010 to 27/07/2012
Art At The Edge is organising a public art event for Bath which is generating activities now and will culminate in a city-wide sport-themed sculpture trail in the summer of 2012. 30 established British sculptors have been commissioned to each create a 1:5 scale sculptural interpretation of an Olympic or Paralympic sport. The sculptors have been chosen on the basis of curating a collection representing a cross-section of British sculpture in the 21st Century.
All the sculptures are cast in bronze as limited editions by Europe’s pre-eminent art foundry; Pangolin Editions in Gloucestershire.
The full collection will be exhibited at the Victoria Art Gallery in Bath from the 26th May until 1st July 2012 and this will form the core element in the sculpture trail. Other life sized works by a number of Guest Artists will also be displayed in Bath’s streets and public spaces. The launch of the sculpture trail will coincide with the Olympic Torch coming to Bath on May 22nd 2012 and run until the end of the Paralympic Games on the 9th September 2012.
This project aims to ensure Bath is at the forefront of cultural celebration in the run up to 2012 and seeks to bring inspirational art to a wider audience. Money raised through the project will go to support disadvantaged and disabled young people through the life changing work of the Youth Sport Trust and the British Paralympic Association.
