Bath Comedy Festival

About

Running from Friday March 27th to Monday April 6th, the 7th annual Bath Comedy Festival in 2015 is the biggest to date, with over 100 events in the programme.

With more acts than ever before in both the core curated programme and the open programme, Bath will host an eclectic mix of both well-known and up-and-coming comedy performers, and includes the inaugural Kids’ Comedy Festival. This year will also be the UK’s first ‘F’ rated comedy festival, building on Bath Film Festival’s successful 2014 ‘F’ film rating initiative.

Bath Comedy Festival Director Nick Steel said “I love introducing Bath to new and talented comedy performers, so I can’t wait for everyone to see the full programme for this year’s festival. I have slaved for spend many hours, sitting in darkened pubs and comedy clubs, beer in hand, just so I could bring this year’s hand-picked selection of acts to our great city!”

“I am also delighted that our core programme is taking up and running with the ‘F’ baton handed over by the Bath Film Festival. Our ‘F’ also stands for ‘Funny’, of course. There are many highly accomplished and very funny women out there, and by applying our version of this rating system, we aim to prove that once and for all!”

The Opening Night Gala Cabaret at Bath Cricket Club boasts an eclectic mix of stand-up, character comedy, magic and music, to kick start the Festival, starring Jarred Christmas, Billy Kidd, Svetlana the Oligarch’s Wife and Mik Artistik’s Ego Trip, back by popular request!

The Festival’s core curated programme centres on two favourite venues, Bath Cricket Club and the Ring O Bells, and some special one-off events elsewhere. Bath Cricket Club sees five star shows such as Fred Macaulay, Ronnie Golden, Jess Robinson’s Mighty Voice and Arthur Smith Sings Leonard Cohen, a magic chat show from Danny Buckler and solo shows from Edinburgh favourites The Real MacGuffins, Carey Marx and Nick Doody. The club also hosts a literary event with Helen Lederer and her new comedy book ‘Losing It’.

The Cricket Club is also hosting the inaugural Kids’ Comedy Festival in association with Jimmy Mc (from Bath’s popular Saturday morning club for children Fezziwigs Fun Club) with a packed programme of Easter holiday fun guaranteed to keep the kids rolling in the aisles.

The Ring O Bells in Widcombe plays host to three solo shows per evening during the week, including Edinburgh previews and works in progress from seasoned performers alongside up-and-coming stars of the future, highlights including Mick Ferry, Diane Spencer, Pierre Hollins, Matt Green, Bec Hill and Gary Colman.

The flagship Wine Arts Trail event is back with a bigger and even more bizarre mystery tour on a big Routemaster bus with the fabulous Lorraine Chase reprising her role as clippie for the day. Python and Festival Patron Terry Jones will be in town over Easter showing two of his films at the Little Theatre Cinema and giving a rare interview with author Jem Roberts, and there is a special Sunday Lunch with Lady Margaret & Friends at Woods Restaurant with guest headliner Marcel Lucont.

The open programme this year includes a whole host of free entry stand-up shows at Bath Brew House co-ordinated by local promoter Sal Monello, as well as a variety of different events at other venues around the city including The Rondo and Mission Theatres, and St James Wine Vaults, The Bell, Assembly Inn and Porter pubs as well as Komedia, plus two different comedy walks around the town.
