A young woman - Lily - appears in her garden carrying a washing basket; in the next door terraced house Rob - an out-of-work actor - sees her over the hedge and is instantly attracted to her. Just a couple of problems: Rob is in his 60’s, Lily is in her 20’s and Rob is in lock-down in London August 2020 whilst Lily is in the middle of the Blitz in London 1942.

Based upon the Second World War correspondence between airman John Valentine and his wife Ursula, these letters provide an insight into how two people struggle to find solace and keep their hopes and love alive despite the anxieties of John’s dangerous operational life, and Ursula’s endeavours raising a newborn under the constant threat of aerial attack.

The village of Ballybeg celebrates the Festival of Lughnasa, named after the Celtic God of the Harvest. The arrival of the family’s first wireless set, christened ‘Marconi’, coincides with the homecoming of Father Jack, 25 years a Missionary in Uganda and recovering from malaria. Internal frustrations and thwarted dreams collide with Pagan forces and Christian mores. Things are changing, change which is as devastating as it is inevitable.

Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia follows the young Count Almaviva, disguised as the student Lindoro, as he tries to woo the beautiful and passionate Rosina and make her fall in love with him. For this to happen, he must first rescue her from the clutches of her miserly and elderly ward, Doctor Bartolo, who has designs to marry Rosina himself, once she comes of age, and rob her of her considerable dowry.
