Prior Park (and seperate locations in Corsham)
Ralph Allen Drive

BBC / TV Series / Drama/History
Starring: Aidan Turner, Eleanor Tomlinson, Robin Ellis

Aidan Turner (The Hobbit Trilogy, Being Human) and Eleanor Tomlinson (Death Comes to Pemberley, The White Queen, Jack The Giant Slayer) star as Ross Poldark and Demelza in Debbie Horsfield’s adaptation of Winston Graham’s acclaimed sweeping saga set in 18th century Cornwall. Robin Ellis, who played Ross in the original television adaptation of Poldark, will be joining the cast for two episodes to play Reverend Halse.

Executive producer Karen Thrussell says: "We're so thrilled by the Poldark cast, and we feel particularly privileged that Robin Ellis has agreed to join this stellar line up - it's a great tribute to Debbie Horsfield's scripts.”

Series 1 Synopsis
Britain is in the grip of a chilling recession... falling wages, rising prices, civil unrest - only the bankers are smiling. It's 1783 and Ross Poldark returns from the American War of Independence to his beloved Cornwall to find his world in ruins: his father dead, the family mine long since closed, his house wrecked and his sweetheart pledged to marry his cousin. But Ross finds that hope and love can be found when you are least expecting it in the wild but beautiful Cornish landscape.

PRIOR PARK COLLEGE, BATH (The college cannot be visited but can be viewed from Prior Park Landscape Garden)
School headteacher James Murphy-O’Connor said: “It was our privilege to host the cast and crew of such a well-loved period drama. Our mansion, the former home of Bath visionary Ralph Allen, is a constant source of inspiration to all of us who live and learn here, and we were happy to have the opportunity to share that inspiration. The Mansion Hall was transformed into a sumptuous set appropriate to the late 18th century in which Poldark is set, and we look forward to seeing the fruits of the shoot when the programme is aired.”

Much of Poldark was filmed in the historic town of Corsham, located 10 miles outside of Bath. Corsham was an "open set" as most businesses remained open during the filming, for example If you wanted to order your Indian takeaway, you would visit the saddle store! Ross's visits to the Red Lion pub and bank, and Demelza's visit to the fabric store were all filmed in Corsham.

One filming day in Corsham, the crew were filming a herd of oxen in front of a green screen upon which a computer-generated image would later be added. However, one ox was not happy with the director’s plan and didn’t like being pushed in front of the specially-erected screen. ‘He kicked his handler, and, in the process, smashed the window of one of the historic properties, before he relieved himself on the green screen,' reported show producer, Eliza Mellor. ‘I think he was quite thrilled by all the attention he was receiving from the crowds of people who had gathered to watch. Thankfully, the handler was not hurt and filming resumed pretty quickly.’
