About
Manufacturing, construction and building are some of the biggest hurdles to tackling climate change. The construction of steel, cement, chemicals and other products is essential to building new homes, infrastructure and medicine but presents a huge problem for carbon emissions. How can we address these problems while still creating the products and buildings we need for everyday life?
Join Dr Stephen Allen and Professor Pete Walker from the University of Bath, who are looking to nature for the answer to these questions. On Tuesday 29 October, at a free lecture at The Mission Theatre, Bath you will find out how natural and recycled resources could become the building materials of the future including prefabricated wall panels made from waste wood and insulation made from fungus.
Dr. Stephen Allen will explore how we determine whether new manufacturing approaches are any more sustainable than their predecessors. Drawing on experience over the past 25 years Prof. Pete Walker will outline future opportunities to further the use of bio-based building products in new and retrofitting construction projects.
Tickets are free but need to be booked in advance.
