Victoria Requiem by Candlelight 
Saturday 12 March 7.00pm (in the Quire)

The Early Music Wells Consort, directed by Matthew Owens, sings one of the sublime masterpieces of the Spanish Renaissance, Tomás Luis de Victoria’s Requiem – Officium defunctorum (1605).

Wells is easily reached by both car and public transport. Regular bus services to and from Wells operate from Bath (No. 173) and other destinations locally. A musical journey through Baroque Europe, with Matthew Owens (Organist and Master of the Choristers, Wells Cathedral), featuring music by Handel, Sweelinck, François Couperin, Frescobaldi, and Buxtehude.

Back Cello Suites by Candlelight

Some of the most beautiful music ever written for the cello, in the candlelit surroundings of Wells Cathedral, with one of Europe’s leading baroque cellists, Luise Buchberger (Co-Principal Cello of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment): Suites No. 1 in G major, BWV 1007; No. 4 in E-flat major, BWV 1010; and No. 5 in C minor, BWV 1011.

Saint Cecilia Concert by Candlelight 
Saturday 26 November 7.00pm (in the Quire)

In its 20th anniversary year, The Brook Street Band (“Finely balanced, deliciously spiced, infectiously musical!” – Andrew McGregor, BBC Radio 3) presents music by Bach, Handel, Leclair, and Telemann.

Lisete da Silva (baroque flute), Farran Scott (baroque violin), Tatty Theo (baroque cello), Carolyn Gibley (harpsichord).
