This workshop draws inspiration from the full-length Gainsborough portraits in the Holburne’s collection. The day opens with a curatorial talk giving insight into Gainsborough and his development of the society portrait, from his arrival in Bath and beginnings of a personal style, to the height of his fame in London in the 1770s. Under the guidance of tutor Hannah Murgatroyd, draw from Gainsborough’s paintings in the gallery, moving on to the studio to draw a full-length portrait from a clothed model. Hannah welcomes experienced artists to beginners, what matters is participants are united by a love of drawing.
Hannah is an alumnus of the Royal College of Art and Royal Drawing School and has been teaching drawing for over ten years, and is a tutor at the RWA Drawing School.
