About

City Nature Challenge is an exciting collaborative mission to record as much wildlife as possible from 26 - 29 April, using the free iNaturalist app. Get involved in the Bristol and Bath effort as we come together to collect records of biodiversity across our area, alongside 500+ other city regions around the globe!

Over the four-day challenge, people across Bristol, Bath and Northeast Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (“West of England”), will be coming together to share observations of the nature that lives in our area, using iNaturalist.

How do I take part?

Take photos of any plant, animal, or any evidence of life found in the West of England on the 26, 27, 28 and 29 of April. Then, upload your photos to the free iNaturalist app or website anytime between the 26 April and the 5 May, so that they are included in the total count. You don't need to be an expert to take part. iNaturalist will suggest an identification, and a global community of online wildlife enthusiasts and experts will be able to confirm your identification.

It’s more important than ever that we know what wildlife is living in the West of England and where it is located – and what species are missing from the map. By recording nature sightings in your neighbourhood during the City Nature Challenge, you can provide important data to help tackle the ecological emergency that is threatening species across the UK.
