Jacques Audiard is arguably the best male French director currently working, with films like The Beat That My Heart Skipped, A Prophet (both shown at previous FilmBath Festivals), and Dheepan on his CV. His latest film, from a script cowritten by Céline Sciamma, is one of his finest.

Set in the eponymous area of Paris, a very modern but also very classic love story plays out between four people in dreamy black-and-white. Along with Gagarine (also screening at this year’s festival), it shows the French capital as a place where dreams are created and pursued.
