About
Legendary journalist Sir Max Hastings comes to BRLSI to discuss his latest book on the Cuban Missile Crisis and what relevance this key event in history holds for the world of today.
The Ukraine war has forced an anxious world to contemplate the possibility of nuclear weapons being unleashed. In this talk, Sir Max dissects the events of an earlier nuclear crisis, which was initiated when the USSR embarked on a plan to site nuclear weapons on Cuba, just 90 miles from the soil of the United States of America. Sir Max gives a gripping account of the events that pushed the world to the brink of Armageddon six decades ago, and of the key personalities involved, including John F. Kennedy, Fidel Castro and Nikita Khrushchev. The relevance to today's volatile world can scarcely be overstated.
