Jane Austen's Bath

Days Out

Bath is an ideal base to explore places that Jane visited and wrote about in her novels. Just a 2 hour drive away from Bath and you can visit the following locations:

Steventon, Hampshire
Where Jane Austen was born and lived for the first part of her life. The house where she lived no longer exists but you can visit the church where she worshipped and was baptised.

Southampton
Where Mrs Austen rented a house after Mr Austen died. The family were poorer and shared the house with Jane's naval brother Francis and his young bride.

Lyme Regis
Located on the Dorset coast, Jane and her family visited Lyme Regis for seaside holidays and it is also featured in Persuasion.

Chawton, Alton, Hampshire
Where Jane spent the last eight years of her life and you can still visit the house today. Visit the 17th century house which tells the story of Jane Austen and her family.

Winchester Cathedral
Where Jane Austen is buried, Jane was taken to Winchester to seek advice and help from a celebrated doctor. Her grave-stone and a memorial tablet is mounted on the wall and can be seen in the north aisle.
