BTP and Bath BID join forces to carry out marketing campaigns

13th June 2011

Bath Tourism Plus (BTP) and Bath Business Improvement District (BID) have joined forces to deliver a number of effective marketing campaigns that will raise Bath’s profile and drive more day and staying visitors to the city.

A number of marketing campaigns and events have been planned for the rest of the year and throughout 2012, focusing on different aspects of the city and promoting various messages to a number of audiences, with the first campaign to take place this year.  The first project will attract regional visitors and shoppers and will highlight what Bath has to offer during the autumn and winter months by using a range of marketing activity including brochures, website, PR and outdoor advertising.

Robin Bischert, chief executive at Bath Tourism Plus, said: “By working in partnership to maximise our resources, we will reach a wider audience.  We are very positive that our new relationship with BID will achieve effective marketing for the destination and will build on the activity currently carried out by Bath Tourism Plus to promote Bath and the surrounding area to potential visitors”.

Andrew Cooper, Bath BID Manager, said: “Marketing and events were a key component in the consultation the BID carried out with businesses.  Working with BTP will benefit the BID as we seek to improve our marketing as a destination.  Pooling resources will mean the BID levy payers will be able to participate in campaigns and initiatives that have a greater reach and impact”.

Bath Improvement District
The concept of Business Improvement Districts (BID) is now well established with 111 formal BIDs in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Of these 29 have been successfully renewed.

Bath recognised the need to have a strong City Centre Management Partnership and this was successfully established by Future Bath Plus, the public private partnership set up to oversee city centre management, culture and tourism activity. Part of the remit was to investigate the benefits of a Business Improvement District if implemented in the City.

Following a successful period of consultation with businesses in the city, the Bath Business Improvement District came into effect April 1st 2011. In total, 617 businesses are covered by the BID. The BID Board includes landlords, large retailers, small independent retailers, the FSB, Chamber of Commerce, BIG, tourism and leisure sectors along with professional and office sectors.

Bath Business Improvement District is managed by Andrew Cooper. Andrew was previously Bath City Centre Manager and has long experience of the retail sector and is a member of the Association of Town Centre Managers and British BIDs.

Bath Business Improvement District will improve trade, boost footfall and dwell time, and increasing Bath’s competitiveness as a city.
