BTP boosts profile of Bath with social media campaign
13th June 2011
Bath’s profile is receiving a boost on a number of social networking websites since Bath Tourism Plus (BTP) launched its most recent marketing campaign. Working with a specialist PR Agency, BTP will promote the city of Bath and surrounding area through a dedicated social media campaign.
Digital agency, Electric Suitcase, was selected because of its specialist knowledge in social media and experience of working with other destination marketing organisations across the country.
Since the campaign began in May, there has been an increase in the number of ‘followers’ and ‘friends’ on both Twitter and Facebook with numbers expecting to rise further as more activity takes place.
In addition to attracting more followers, the aim of the campaign is to generate interest in Bath by encouraging people to visit the official tourism website www.visitbath.co.uk. In May 2011 there was an increase of 195% on the previous year in the number of people clicking through to the VisitBath website from Facebook, and a 334% increase from Twitter.
The campaign has so far included a photography competition, blogging using Facebook notes, as well as daily updates and conversations on Twitter. A Twitrip (a guide to Bath for visitors according to recommendations tweeted to us), video content, which will be added onto Facebook, and a video competition, ‘Bath in 60 seconds’, is planned for the rest of the campaign throughout June and July.
Robin Bischert, chief executive at Bath Tourism Plus, has commented on the importance of BTP taking part in social networking and said: “With social media continuing to grow at a very fast rate, it’s imperative that Bath has a presence on websites such as Twitter and Facebook. By doing this, we can monitor what is being said about Bath, as well as initiating and contributing to conversations about the city”.
