Beat the Winter Blues In Bath

With years of fascinating history set in a picturesque setting of stunning architecture, a reputation for the finest hospitality and a revived image as the original spa destination, Bath is perfect for a 'getaway' at any time of year.

While the typically 'summer holiday destinations' start to wind down at the end of their season, Bath continues through the darker months - which are brightened by a buzzing cosmopolitan atmosphere, a huge range of year round attractions and a number of exciting, festive events.

A new brochure, 'Winter Highlights' from Bath Tourism Plus (the tourism marketing organisation for Bath), is a great place to start when planning your stay in the city this winter. Full of great ideas of places to stay and things to do, the Winter Highlights brochure is the perfect tool for organising your visit of whatever kind...

Why not take a couple of days in Bath to complete your Christmas shopping in style? Bath Christmas Market (30th November - 10th December) is set in beautiful surroundings and comprises of 120 chalets, packed with seasonal gifts, decorations and food. Full details of the market and its retailers are included in the Winter Highlights brochure. The city centre also boasts a full range of national retail stores, which are complimented by Bath's large number of independent shops selling antiques, crafts and designer clothing - perfect to help find that something special. The city has a compact centre, with all of this in easy walking distance.

The need for pure indulgence at this time of year inspires another great winter break in Bath and the surrounding area. With a high proportion of luxury hotels and restaurants with sumptuous interiors and crackling log fires, treat yourself to a few days living in style - battling the winter blues and hibernating from the inclement weather.

After the excesses and stress of the seasonal festivities, you may feel the need to recharge and detox - and there is no better place for this than Bath and its surrounding countryside. The City's reputation as the original spa destination has been revived with the opening of the magnificent Thermae Bath Spa, where you can relax and recharge in the heart of the city. Many of the hotels in and around Bath also have spa facilities offering massage and complementary therapies to help you recharge and get a great start to the New Year. Details of spa breaks packages can be found at http://visitbath.co.uk/site/spa-and-wellbeing.

If you are in need of some fresh country air to blow away those winter blues, take the opportunity to experience some of the west-country's most fantastic views, from a network of cycle paths and walking routes that meander through the area linking surrounding hillsides, villages and towns just waiting to be explored. Take the opportunity to stop for refreshments in one of many tea rooms or country pubs and return re-energised and refreshed.

Whatever your reason for visiting - for relaxation, exhilaration, pure indulgence, fantastic shopping or a combination of all three - Bath has an enormous amount to offer during the winter months.

Robin Bischert, Chief Executive of Bath Tourism Plus (the official marketing organisation for Bath) says: 'Bath and Beyond is a year-round destination, and we are sure that the new Winter Highlights brochure will help to promote the area as such.'
