American Museum Launches New Interactive Exhibition

The American Museum in Britain has launched a new, interactive exhibition 'The American Heritage Exhibition'.

The innovative show, which charts the history of the country from Black America to the Civil War and George Washington to Marilyn Monroe, was officially launched by the ambassador along with the museum's director Sandra Barghini.

The manor's 3,200sq ft lower ground level has been transformed in a project which has cost around £1m.

It now houses Native American and African American collections, as well as many other stories that tell the tale of the country.

The American Heritage exhibition was put together with help of a £450,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Grant and is the first of three changes planned for the museum for the period leading up to the centennial of one of the museum's two founders, Dr Dallas Pratt.

Also planned are changes to the orangery - a light-filled area which will be expanded and free up more exhibition space.

Work on this is due to begin in late 2007 and an education building is also planned.

A 5,000sq ft building will link into the gallery and library, and will be loaded with interactive learning facilities.
