Royal Victoria Park

About

Princess Victoria, the future queen, came to Bath in 1830, aged just eleven years old, to officially open Royal Victoria Park. Unfortunately, she was never to return.

During her visit, it is said that a resident of Bath made a disparaging comment on the thickness of her ankles. The observation was duly reported to the Princess, causing her to shun the city for the duration of her reign!

Just a short stroll from the city centre, the area is a beautiful expanse of green parkland, spanning 57 acres. Originally an arboretum, it is still home to beautiful botanic gardens and the Great Dell Aerial Walkway.

There are many attractions within the park, whatever your age. Gather your friends for a fun game of tennis or a round on the 18-hole mini golf course, or take the children to the expansive adventure playground. With climbing frames, zip lines and a skateboard area, it’s the perfect place to wear them out.

Head to The Urban Garden, a calm oasis where you can buy a range of stylish plants and gifts. They have a beautiful tropical glasshouse bursting with houseplants and also a kiosk selling delicious coffee, ice cream and cake. An ideal stop off on route from the Royal Crescent to the Botanical Gardens.

Victoria Park is there to be enjoyed year-round. In the spring you can feed the ducks before stopping for a coffee and a bite to eat at the Pavilion Café. In summer, enjoy a picnic in front of the curving Royal Crescent and watch the hot air balloons set up before taking to the skies.

Enjoy taking a brisk autumnal walk through the grounds to admire the trees in October and keep an eye out for the open-air ice rink that arrives in November, perfect for getting into the Christmas spirit.
