Type: Cycle
Bath Bike Hire operates from the Bath Narrowboats base at Sydney Wharf situated at the bottom of Bathwick Hill only 10 minutes walk from the city centre and Bath Spa railway station. There is a full range of adult & children’s mountain bikes that are available to hire for full or half day. Currently we charge £ 13 for half day and £ 19 for a full day. Exploring the city, canal towpath or just the area around Bath is ideal on a Bike. We have a new fleet of top quality branded GIANT mountain bikes that are ideal for the canal towpath. If you leave Bathwick travelling southwards you will pass through Bathampton – the George pub and onto Claverton where you can visit the pumping station. Further on you can stop at the Canal Visitor Centre where you can rest at the Angelfish Restaurant for an ice cream, cream tea, snack or meal. This takes an hour from Bath and is five miles. If you want to cycle further, then cross the famous Dundas Aquaeduct and onto Avoncliff and the historic town of Bradford on Avon where you can visit many tourist sites and eateries. Alternatively from Bathwick, you can travel northwards along the towpath towards Widcombe past the six locks that bring the narrowboats up from the river onto the canal. Take care here as you need to negotiate the main road but once crossed you follow the cycle path by the river which joins onto the Bristol cycle way and follows the old railway path to Bristol. Next year we will have the exciting opening of the two tunnels through the hills of Bath that will join up yet more cycle paths to explore. Along with the many sites around Bath such as the Circus, the Royal Crescent, Victoria park etc there are endless hours of exploration if your legs are up to it.
We prefer you to book your bikes to avoid disappointment, so just telephone 01225 447 276. We will ask for credit card details and when you arrive we will want to see positive ID with the card. This is just to cover the loss or damage of the bikes whilst in your care. When you arrive we will adjust the saddles to your comfortable height, fit you with a pump, tyre repair kit & a tool kit.
If you want a more relaxing leisurely cruise along the canal then why not hire one of our small narrowboats. Starting from Sydney Wharf, just 10 minutes stroll from the City Centre, you'll find yourself cruising gently past such gems as Sydney Gardens, Bath's Victorian pleasure gardens with its ornate bridges and tunnels, Claverton Pumping Station, the Dundas and Avoncliffe Aquaducts and Bradford on Avon, a historic woollen town with its Saxon church and medieval tithe barn.

Road Directions
From the M4 Motorway
Leave the motorway at junction 18 and follow the signs south to Bath on the A46. Turn onto the A4 at the large roundabout on the outskirts of Bath. Follow the sign towards the city centre. Turn left at the second set of traffic lights (ignoring the light controlled pedestrian crossingsand the entrance to Morrisons Supermarket). The road will be signposted A4 Bristol. At the next set of traffic lights follow the road right towards Bristol, do not turn left onto the A36 towards Warminster. At the next roundabout, next to a church turn left. You will then be on Bathwick Hill.
About 300 yards up the hill you will see “The Moorings” a new retirement home on your left and a row of shops on your right. The entrance to Sydney Wharf is along the passageway to the right of the front door into 'The Moorings'. Look out for the two brown 'Bath Narrowboats' signs fixed to the street lamps to show you the way in.
Regrettably we can only park cars off road or by special permit by prior arrangement. Parking is not always easy on the roads surrounding Sydney Wharf so please watch the time allowance shown on the signs adjacent to the street parking bays.
From Bristol and the M5
