Shopping in Bath
Bath’s show-stopping retail scene, set against a backdrop of Georgian grandeur, has made the city one of the most stylish destinations for 300 years, with a compact city centre brimming with independent stores and high street brands.
The Heart of the City
The central streets of Bath are packed with a variety of well-known brands. Stall Street and Union Street provide a lively route of shops through the length of the city. Adjacent to Bath Abbey is Bath Aqua Glass, offering beautiful hand-blown glassware and jewellery, and tucked away by the side of Thermae Bath Spa on Hot Bath Street is Breathe Out Now – a conscious wellbeing lifestyle shop selling aromatherapy card and crystals. Union Street is home to Lush store and spa – immerse yourself in a world of tranquillity for the mind and body.
Don’t miss The Corridor, resembling a Parisian arcade or Bath Guildhall Market, the city’s oldest indoor market. Wander along Union Passage to find family-run The Silver Shop and pay a visit to the award-winning jeweller Nicholas Wylde in Northumberland Place. In nearby Broad Street you’ll find a range of boutique fashion and interior shops and a design-led independent department store.
Walcot Street and Artisan Area
The London Road and Walcot areas have affectionately been known as Bath’s Artisan Quarter since the 1960’s. A collection of boutique shops have everything from vintage clothing to designer homeware, and from quirky artwork to delicious food.
Milsom Street, Milsom Place, Green Street and New Bond Street
Featuring Jolly’s, the UK’s first department store which is now home to House of Fraser, along with many luxury interior stores, high-end fashion and beauty brands and several independents lining one of the grandest streets for shopping in the city. In the elegant corridors and courtyards of Milsom Place, you’ll find a hidden oasis of boutiques and restaurants, while Green Street, which has restricted vehicle access is full of shops to browse and beautifully frames St Michael’s Church beyond, with its tall spire. New Bond Street at the base of Milsom Street is also home to several unique brands and designer shops.
Upper City - George Street, Bartlett Street and Marlborough Buildings
Just north of Milsom Street, George Street and Bartlett Street house a cluster of independent retailers. Nestled between the Circus and The Royal Crescent you will find Marlborough Buildings – a pretty pedestrianised street flanked by galleries, antique shops and individual boutique shops.
SouthGate
Stepping off the train at Bath Spa Station you will immediately come across SouthGate – an ideal starting point for a shopping spree. Find your favourite big fashion brands and vibrant multinational cuisine. Relax in SouthGate’s central square area during the summer with deckchairs and a big outdoor screen showing sports, while Christmas shopping at SouthGate comes with a sprinkling of festive magic.
Green Park Station
Once Bath’s main railway station, Green Park Station holds some fantastic covered markets and a creative collection of independent traders. Shop for the best local produce on a Saturday at Bath Farmer’s Market and Bath Flea Market on Sundays. Green Park Station was recently used for the filming of Pursuit of Love with Lily James.
