About

Hundreds of metal-stemmed poppies will once again be displayed at The Bishop's Palace to commemorate Remembrance weekend this November.

Originally, 7,986 poppies were created in 2018 by local schoolchildren, one for every serviceman from Somerset who lost his life during the First World War. Some of these were later sold to raise funds for SSAFA and the Wells Branch of the Royal British Legion.

After the original Somerset Poppies project concluded, it was agreed that 2,000 poppies would remain at The Bishop's Palace, allowing this poignant tribute to continue each year within the Palace grounds. The installation will once again be arranged by Dan Vidler, who first conceived the idea for the 2018 centenary display.

This year, the poppies will be on view from 6–19 November in the Inner Gardens near the Well House, offering visitors a moment of reflection amid the beauty of the Palace gardens.

A valid admission ticket is required to enter the Palace grounds and view the display, this includes Annual Passes, Day Tickets, Joint Tickets with Wells Cathedral and Friends of the Palace membership.
