About

Saddle Goose is an urban winery and cellar door based in Frome, producing around 8,000 bottles per year by hand, using English-grown grapes and minimal intervention techniques. Passionate about local wine production, they push the boundaries of what English wine can be, while treading lightly on the environment.

Cellar Door

At the Frome Cellar Door, visitors are welcomed into their working winery for relaxed, informal tastings, private bookings, and intimate events for up to 22 people. Stripping away the pretence often associated with wine, Saddle Goose offers a laid-back, sociable atmosphere with good music and great company.

Guests can enjoy curated tasting flights alongside locally sourced cheeses, charcuterie, and seasonal nibbles. For special occasions, Saddle Goose can also arrange full food pairings and bespoke menus in collaboration with other local producers and businesses.

What is Saddle Goose?

Saddle Goose takes its name from a 19th-century term for a “fool” — a nod to the early scepticism and doubters of English wine. When owner and head winemaker Adam Collins was making wine in France, his colleagues would joke that he was crazy for choosing to make wine in the UK. Leaning into this rebellious spirit, and determined to prove the doubters wrong, the winery was founded in 2020 to challenge expectations and push the boundaries of what English wine can be.

Blending traditional techniques with modern thinking, Saddle Goose focuses on low-intervention winemaking at the highest level, often blurring the lines between “natural” and “fine” wines. With sustainability at its core, Adam manages local vineyards for his own fruit and collaborates with organic growers who prioritise healthy soils. As an open, working winery, they invite people into the process — breaking down barriers and stripping away the pretence often associated with wine, making it more accessible, fun and genuinely enjoyable for all.
