Bath has long attracted directors and producers eager to feature the city’s stunning Georgian architecture and surrounding manor houses and countryside on both the big and small screen.
The city features in Hollywood hits including Les Misérables, The Duchess, and Vanity Fair. On the small screen, the cobbled Queen Street stood in for Victorian England in a special episode of Sherlock. More recently, you might have noticed Bath in The Trial of Christine Keeler and Belgravia. The city also has starring roles in the BBC's The Pursuit of Love and ITV's detective drama McDonald and Dodds.
One of Bath's most notable on-screen appearances is in Bridgerton. The hit Netflix series, set in the Regency era, is produced by Shonda Rhimes and stars none other than Julie Andrews as narrator. It features plenty of romance and scandal, with the first two seasons released in 2020 and 2022 respectively, followed by a third in 2024.
The city also serves as a backdrop to the adventures of Timothée Chalamet's young Willy Wonka in the 2023 live-action musical Wonka, while Jim Broadbent's Harold Fry visits Bath in feature film The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, released the same year.
2022's adaption of Jane Austen's Persuasion, starring Dakota Johnson, features beautiful Bath as a key filming location, as do both the 1995 and 2007 adaptations. Discover Persuasion Filming Locations in Bath.
