About
Join Yeo Valley in the Garden for a workshop with James Hitchmough.
Coarse minerals are becoming popular as planting substrates for a variety of reasons, not least of which is that they are hostile to germinating weed seeds and allow highly detailed, visually striking diverse plantings of species that like very well drained soils to be developed at very low levels of maintenance.
This workshop will look at the history and current utilisation of these techniques in the UK and elsewhere, the characteristics of these mineral materials, including their environmental sustainability, planting practices for successful establishment, ecologically based dryland planting design and plant selection. James will draw on over twenty years of experience as a researcher and practitioner in working with these approaches, and will use a number of case studies of past and present work.
