Avon Valley Railway

About

Visit Avon Valley Railway to see a lovingly restored section of the Midland Railway branch line.  Volunteers have re-laid a three-mile section of track and carefully restored locomotives and carriages so that the sound of steam can once again be heard along the Avon Valley.

Begin your visit at the beautifully restored Victorian station at Bitton.  Take a ride in a heritage carriage behind a steam or diesel locomotive whilst admiring idyllic views across the Avon Valley.  For the full experience enjoy lunch or afternoon tea in the station buffet and pick up a railway-themed souvenir from the gift shop.

On Sundays climb aboard the Pines Express for a two or three course lunch served in a traditional railway dining car.  Look out for special events held throughout the year, including the popular Teddy Bear’s Picnic, 1940s weekend and murder mysteries.  Enthusiasts can even book driver experience courses for the opportunity to take the controls on a six-mile trip through the Avon Valley.

Dog-Friendly

Dogs are welcome on the heritage steam and diesel trains during the summer with seating either at tables or separate compartments (ideal if the dog needs a bit more space). There's water available at the station and they even sell dog-friendly ice cream too! There are just a few days in the year when the railway would rather you left your dog at home. Please check directly for more information.
