Eating and Drinking

There’s fabulous food on the menu all over Bath, with places to eat and drink for all tastes and budgets.

Bath’s food scene is a reflection of the city as a whole. It’s a satisfying mix of local and global, a combination of homemade specialities unique to Bath with cutting edge cuisine from around the world.

Take your pick from Michelin star or AA Rosette-winning restaurants, welcoming gastropubs, chilled out cafés and funky street food vendors. Go on a gastronomic tour with dishes from Nepal, Thailand, India, Morocco and the Caribbean. Or tuck into traditional British and European favourites made with the freshest local ingredients and bags of provenance. Best of all, many of our restaurants are independently owned, offering special dining experiences you won’t find anywhere else.

Popular chain restaurants are also in the mix. All the big names are here, from Pizza Express to Wagamama, with the added bonus that many are housed in Bath’s beautiful period buildings.

Bath is also the perfect place to take afternoon tea. This quintessentially British refreshment is served at many of our elegant hotels and restaurants, occasionally with musical accompaniment to go with the fine teas, perfectly made sandwiches and delicious cakes. No wonder it’s as popular today as it was in Georgian times.

Don’t miss the chance to sample some true Bath originals. The currant-packed Bath bun, a city staple since the 1700s, is a classic accompaniment to a hot pot of tea. It’s not to be confused with the Sally Lunn bun. More like a brioche than a traditional bun, this delicious sweet treat is made to a closely guarded secret recipe and only available at Sally Lunn’s, one of the oldest houses in Bath.

Feeling thirsty? You’ll find some of the UK’s best bars on Bath’s historic streets. Relax in a chic cocktail bar or grab a seat by the fire in one of Bath’s traditional pubs and sample a pint of locally brewed craft ale or crisp West Country cider. Perfect after a busy day exploring the city.
