If you decide you’d like to escape city life for a while, you can easily find The Angelfish Restaurant on the A36 out of Bath, below Brassknocker Hill. Situated next to the restored Somerset Coal Canal, with easy access and a large car park, the restaurant enjoys panoramic views across the Limpley Stoke Valley. In this historic setting, you can watch the narrowboats while enjoying your food.

Choose to sit outside on the terrace, or inside where the vibe is more informal. The whole restaurant is surrounded by glass, allowing a clear view and making the atmosphere feel light, fresh and warm – even on a winter’s day.

Chef and owners Lionel and Victoria excel in their partnership, bringing their wealth of world-travelled experience to this lovely spot. The choice of menus is informal, enticing and varied. The fixed options menu ranges from snacks and freshly cooked baguettes with unusual fillings, to more substantial meals and a specials board that changes daily. There is a selection of homemade desserts, cakes and ice creams.

The Angelfish caters for everyone, such as families on a day out, holidaymakers, visitors to the site, ramblers, cyclists, boaters, dog owners, coach parties and many private functions. Although not regularly open every evening, they do open for private functions of 25 or more where you are able to have the whole restaurant to yourselves. 

There is magic here for everyone, from cream tea with organic clotted cream to a cappuccino coffee break, ‘let’s do lunch’ occasion or a private party. And, if you like what you’ve tried, you can book The Angelfish's outside catering company Gourmet Delicious for your wedding, business event or birthday celebration.

Road Directions

From the M4 MotorwayLeave the motorway at junction 18 and follow the signs south to Bath on the A46. Turn onto the A4 at the large roundabout on the outskirts of Bath. Follow the sign towards the city centre. Turn left at the second set of traffic lights (ignoring the light controlled pedestrian crossings and the entrance to Morrisons Supermarket). The road will be signposted A4 Bristol. At the next set of traffic lights follow the road turn left onto the A36. ( Signposts will be marked Salisbury, Warminster ). Continue out of Bath for four miles until you reach a set of traffic lights ( before a viaduct bridge ) Turn left towards Bradford on Avon and turn immediately left and continue straight on into the car park. The Canal Visitor Centre is clearly signposted and once parked is up above you. From Bristol and the M5Leave the M5 at junction 18 and follow the signs to Bath A4 through Bristol, Keynsham and Saltford to Bath. Stay on the A4 around the outskirts of Bath. The railway will cross the road twice. There are traffic lights at the second crossing, stay on the A4 at this point continue straight on past the roundabout and next set of traffic lights. . At the next set of traffic lights follow the road turn right onto the A36. ( Signposts will be marked Salisbury, Warminster ). Continue out of Bath for four miles until you reach a set of traffic lights ( before a viaduct bridge ) Turn left towards Bradford on Avon and turn immediately left and continue straight on into the car park. The Canal Visitor Centre is clearly signposted and once parked is up above you. From Warminster and the SouthFollow the A36 from Warminster to Bath. As you come through Limpley stoke down the hill you will cross the viaduct bridge across the Limpley Stoke Valley. At the traffic lights turn right towards Bradford on Avon and turn immediately left and continue straight on into the car park. The Canal Visitor Centre is clearly signposted and once parked is up above you.

Public Transport Directions

From the bus station, the buses number 264 run every 20 minutes to Trowbridge / Warminster during the week along the river, across the Pultney bridge, down great Pultney way towards the Holborne museum. The bus will then turn left and onto the A36 travelling towards Warminster. After travelling for 4 miles, through Claverton it will stop at the traffic lights in front of the Viaduct bridge and similarly named pub. If you hop off, look to your left you will see the Canal Visitor Centre which is accessible through a gate or along the road which turns left to Bradford on Avon.The 265 bus returns from Warminster/Trowbridge/Bradford on Avon and stops here before continuing onto Bath if you need to travel back by bus.
