We are expecting an announcement from the Government in the next few days about when we can expect our hospitality and visitor attraction sector, or at least some, to be able to open again.
We know that some of you are ready to, as soon as you can, begin to welcome guests back to your businesses. We also know that for others, the announcement will be bittersweet, as you are struggling to understand how you might operate under anticipated guidelines. It is also too late for some, who have sadly already closed.
23rd March seems a lifetime away, but as we all begin to adjust to what our new operating parameters will be, one thing we are all agreed on is that public safety comes first.
Over the last few months, the Visit Bath team have worked hard to readjust to ensure that digital content is being shared to enable the destination remains visible, switching to a Virtual Bath campaign and planning support for your businesses for the time it is ready to reopen. This has included working with other destinations, keeping in touch with some of our trade partners and reviewing every single page of content we have online. This work continues.
We have also spent the last few months lobbying at local, regional and national levels to try and get the best support we can for the business community. We have been a part of some of the decisions that have benefitted many, but are also very aware that we have not managed to help every single business we can. We are still fighting.
We have maintained a close partnership with colleagues in other heritage cities, in the larger core cities, VisitEngland and VisitBritain, to ensure we learn and share best practice to enable Bath and North East Somerset and our Members from further afield the best possible chance to benefit.
While we know the next few weeks will involve a huge amount of planning, frustration and innovation as your businesses adapt to the new landscape, please do try and take five minutes to update us on your plans and, if possible, reflect these in your website listing.
We know there is a mammoth task ahead, but we have the reassurance of the quality of your businesses, the excitement of those new businesses that are due to open in the next year, and the beautiful surroundings of the city and countryside to attract visitors in the future.
