Joining forces with Meet Bristol Convention Bureau, Visit Bath welcomed six event planners to the city this January.
A partnership with MEET South West, the inaugural trade show for the region connecting buyers, agencies, venues and suppliers, the group spent time in both Bath and Bristol, and at the show. Consisting of event planners from corporate organisations, from CAT Media to Métier UK DMC, most of the group travelled from London, with train tickets kindly supplied by GWR.
Experiencing Bath’s MICE offering, the group stayed at The Bird, Bath, and were also treated to a show-round of their sister hotel, the unique No.15 Great Pulteney. Lunch at Bailbrook House was accompanied by a tour of their conference and event facilities, and Apex City of Bath Hotel also provided a show-round of their spaces.
In the afternoon the group learnt about the Assembly Rooms and Bath’s Georgian history with Sulis Guides, ahead of an atmospheric drinks reception around The Roman Baths’ Great Bath with Bath’s Historic Venues. Dinner was enjoyed at Abbey Hotel’s Koffmann & Mr. White’s, along with a tour of the hotel’s bedrooms and event facilities.
The following day saw the group travel to We the Curious in Bristol for MEET South West, where more than 50 MICE providers – venues, suppliers and services – were present or exhibiting – a great way to build connections across the region. Visit Bath were exhibiting as Bath Venue Finder, our free venue finding service run in partnership with Brief2Event.
Paola Davis, MEET South West co-founder, said of the show: “it was a unique opportunity to create personal links with the region’s event industry and get a flavour of the creativity and diversity which make the South West such a popular destination for event planners.”
As the final part of the fam trip, the group stayed on in Bristol. Accommodated by the Mercure Holland House Hotel and Spa, they enjoyed a boat tour of the harbourside with Bristol Packet and time at the historic SS Great Britain. Tours of the Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel and Bristol Old Vic Theatre were topped off with a drinks reception at the Harbour Hotel.
One of the attendees, Joanna Irving, Project Manager at Métier UK DMC, said of the trip: “It was a well organised and worthwhile visit. I only wish we could have spent longer in the beautiful city of Bath, but it was great to see some of the different styles of hotels and venues that were on offer as there is something to appeal to most in the city."
Franco de la Croix-Vaubois, MEET South West co-founder, added: "The partnership between MEET South West, Visit Bath and Meet Bristol was a great example of the region coming together to showcase and develop its event industry.
“The fam trip was a great addition to the show, delivering practical benefits to the buyers who attended, and creating value for the region as a whole.”
