With the advent of cheap air travel, travelling abroad has never been easier. From Budapest to Barcelona, Paris to Prague, holidaymakers and partygoers alike can jet off for long weekends away with ease, seemingly offering the perfect opportunity for hen parties.
In fact, in spite of the rise of low-cost flights, 77% of hen weekends still take place in the UK, and beautiful Bath is up there amongst the top destinations because, well, it offers just about everything a hen party could want.
With its impressive array of bars and eateries, an amazing range of activities and world-famous sights and spas, Bath makes for the perfect weekend getaway.
In 2019, a grand total of 18,480 hen groups came to the city, which totalled an estimated 240,240 visitors. With each group spending an average of £3,600 (including accommodation, activities, food and drink), hen parties contributed more than £66.5 million to the Bath economy.
For GoHen, the leading hen weekend organisers, Bath has been their top destination for hen groups year-on-year, and 7% of all UK hen parties come to the city.
On average, Bath hen parties are slightly older than the UK average and they tend to sway towards more conservative activities such as cocktail mixing, a day at Thermae Bath Spa and dance classes.
In terms of accommodation choice, the majority of hens plumped for self-catering properties, with hot tubs and swimming pools the most requested add-ons.
It wasn’t just UK visitors who were flocking to the city either – last year, GoHen brought travellers to Bath from America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
GoHen’s Director of Operations, Steve Roddy, said: “It’s great being a Bath-based company that we can help to contribute so much to the local economy and help it to thrive.
“We work tirelessly with local suppliers to make sure we offer the best activity, accommodation and nightlife options so our groups have the best experiences possible, and we’re always on the hunt for new suppliers to jump on board with us.”
GoHen are already expecting 2020 to be another busy year in the industry, with Bath still very much at the forefront of people’s thoughts when it comes to their big weekend getaway.
