About

Connecting cultures through art – Discover over 7,000 years of art and history at the Museum of East Asian Art.

The Museum of East Asian Art (MEAA) is an independent educational charity, dedicated to sharing the stories and histories of communities from across East and Southeast Asia. Based in a converted Georgian townhouse in Bath, MEAA was founded in 1993 by Brian McElney OBE. Today, it holds a collection of over 2,000 objects from East and Southeast Asia – including Neolithic pottery, ceramics from Imperial Chinese kilns, jade, lacquerware and bamboo carvings.

Alongside its permanent collection, the Museum hosts a programme of temporary exhibitions, events, and activities for all ages – from traditional Japanese tea ceremonies to family trails and Lunar New Year celebrations.

MEAA is an independent museum, accredited by Arts Council England. By supporting us, you are helping us to achieve our mission of connecting cultures through art. Your generous donations are used to take care of our collection and to fund our programme of events and activities. Visit our support page to find out more about how you can help us.
