About

The Little Theatre invites audiences to a very special double bill: a screening of David Lean’s enduring love story Brief Encounter, which celebrates its 80th anniversary on Wednesday 26 November, followed by the premiere of the real-life story behind the iconic film.

Briefest Encounters – An Untold Love Story uncovers the hidden past of actor Cyril Raymond, who played the cuckolded husband in Brief Encounter. In an uncanny twist of fate, Raymond experienced his own “brief encounter” with fellow actor Janet Morrison during a transatlantic stage production—an affair that resulted in a child born out of wedlock. The film explores more than just one lost love; it delves into three intertwined lives, missed opportunities, and the emotional cost of societal convention.

After the screening, there will be a Q&A with filmmakers Joanna Crosse and Luke Taylor from Meaningful Films.
