About

This November, PCHA brings the sound of the balafon to Bath for a performance that bridges ancient tradition and modern innovation.

Led by Siaka Traoré, son of renowned balafon master Neba Solo, PCHA showcases an instrument deeply rooted in West African heritage. The balafon — a wooden xylophone traditionally played at ceremonies and gatherings — becomes something quietly radical in Traoré’s hands, moving fluidly between traditional rhythms, Afrobeats, electronic textures, and contemporary pop influences.

PCHA is joined by Seydou Kienou on djembe, the iconic goblet drum that pulses through much of Malian rhythm, and DJ Joti, who adds modern layers to the ensemble’s evolving soundscape.

The result is music that honours its origins while venturing boldly into new territory.
