In Outdoors

Whether you're tackling Couch to 5k or simply want to keep your fitness levels up, here are five running routes and paths in Bath.

1. Royal Victoria Park

There are lots of fantastic parks and green spaces in Bath, and Royal Victoria Park, on the north-western side of the city centre, is perfect for a run. At 57 acres, it feels expansive enough to not get bored, but a loop of the main part is around 0.8 miles, or 1.25km, making it manageable enough for a short burst. The iconic Royal Crescent is also situated within the park, meaning you can quickly stop for a photo too!

2. Kennet and Avon Canal

If you fancy your run with a side of beautiful views, head out to the east of Bath along the Kennet and Avon Canal Path. The beauty of a straight path as opposed to a set circular route is that you can turn back whenever you want. The historic canal wends its way through Sydney Gardens too, Bath's oldest park, dating back to 1795. Bear in mind that the towpath can be muddy at times.

3. The Two Tunnels

The Two Tunnels Greenway, opened in 2013 as a Sustrans cycling and walking path, is perfect for escaping the city. Again letting you turn back when you feel like it, it stretches through the Devonshire and Combe Down Tunnels (the latter being the longest cycling tunnel in the country at just over one mile), and you can fit the route to your run by choosing how far to go.

4. Bristol to Bath Cycle Path

Connecting the two cities via a 13-mile off-road route, start from the Bath end of the Cycle Path and decide how far you'd like to run (heading all the way to Bristol may be a bit of a stretch!). Clear your head as you make the most of the fresh air and scenic country views along the way.
